In Wilson, Northeast-Hobgood scored three touchdowns in the third quarter, pulling away from a 32-14 halftime lead en route to a 54-14 win over Community Christian.
NEA-Hobgood, the defending NCISAA 8-Man Football state champions, improved to 4-0 with the win.
Bethel Christian – 44
Lawrence Academy – 0
In Merry Hill, visiting Bethel Christian spoiled homecoming for Lawrence Academy by dealing the Warriors a 44-0 setback.
Lawrence was led by Charles Atkins, who rushed for 55 yards.
Connor Williams threw three TD passes to highlight Bethel Christian’s effort.
Lawrence fell to 0-4 with the loss.
Bertie – 22
Gates County – 20
In a game played on Thursday night (postponed from an earlier date), Bertie held on at home to defeat previously unbeaten Gates County, 22-20.
The Falcons led 22-0 at halftime, thanks to three touchdown runs from Chris Cooper, the game’s leading rusher with 169 rushing yards.
GCHS rallied in the second half, using a TD pass from Jawan Riddick to Jordan Robinson and a pair of scoring runs from DaQuan Drake.
It was Drake’s second TD, from one-yard out, that pulled the Red Barons to within 22-20 late in the contest. But the two-point conversion was stopped by Bertie’s Oscar Jones to preserve the Falcons victory.
Bertie improved to 3-2 with the win while Gates fell to 4-1.
