Sophia R. Williams

MERRY HILL, NC – Sophia Roulhac Williams, age 103, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center in Windsor, NC.
Mrs. Williams was born in Bertie County on January 31, 1915 to the late Peter Roulhac and Eliza Jane Roulhac.
Sophia was educated in the Bertie County Public School System. At an early age she joined Peterson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the senior choir and a Deaconess. Sophia was also a member of the Eastern Star. She later joined New Beginning Christian Center in Merry Hill, NC where she was the oldest member and served as the Mother of the Church. Sophia was also a Grandmother and Godmother to many of the members of the church because of the wisdom she imparted into others.
She was married to Louis F. Williams on May 22, 1937.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, listening to music, singing, watching TV, reading the Bible, and joking with others.
In addition to her parents, Sophia was preceded in death by her husband, Louis F. Williams; two sisters, Katie and Beulah Mae Williams; and two brothers, William and George Roulhac Sr.
Left to cherish her wonderful memories are two daughters, Judy Nell Roulhac of Merry Hill NC, and Faye Davis (Kenny) of Chesapeake, VA; one loving devoted guardian/God daughter, Hattie Askew (Shelly) of Powellsville, NC; two grandsons, Marcus Simmons (Kemil) of Charlotte, NC, and Trivon Simmons of San Francisco, CA; one sister, Florence Chavis of Aulander, NC; a loving and devoted sister-in-law, Argladys Roulhac of Merry Hill NC; a loving and devoted nephew, Rudolph L. Williams of Merry Hill, NC; one great grandchild, Madeline Simmons of Charlotte, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, cousins and other special relatives and friends who will truly miss her.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at New Beginning Christian Center Church, 329 Sutton Road, Merry Hill, NC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Bishop Lindley R. Joyner officiating.
