MURFREESBORO, NC – Michelle Simmons Keene, 56 years old of Murfreesboro, NC, transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, January 21, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. She was born to Evelyn Simmons and late Hugh Tom Simmons on January 8, 1963 in Hertford County, NC.
Michelle attended and graduated from Ahoskie High School where she also drove a school bus. Following high school, Michelle held several roles which allowed her to be a servant to her community. She served as a newspaper carrier for several years before inspiring homeownership in her role as the former general manager of East Coast Sales and later the owner of K & S Family Homes. Most recently she was the owner and lead agent of Michelle Keene Bail Bonding Services.
Michelle was a woman of many trades. She studied cosmetology at Roanoke Chowan Community College, served as a property and casualty insurance agent, was a trained auctioneer, and led a gospel ministry on a local radio station for a short time. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, bargain shopping at Ross and Belk, travelling specifically to California, testing her luck at casinos, and dining at restaurants with great food.
She leaves to cherish her memories her high school sweetheart and loving husband, Bradley L. Keene of Murfreesboro, NC; daughters, Brandi Keene of Gaithersburg, MD and Ashley Cooper of Murfreesboro, NC; grandson, Isaac Cooper Murfreesboro, NC, granddaughters, Caasi Cooper and Isabella Cooper of Murfreesboro, NC and Brea Keene-Toliver of Gaithersburg, MD; her mother, Evelyn Simmons of Ahoskie, NC; sisters, Merle Jones (Sonny) of Goldsboro, NC, Linda Vinson of Ahoskie, NC, and Andrea Newsome (Dallas) of Alexandria, VA; brothers, Andre Simmons (Bridie) of South Carolina, Thomas Simmons (Lori) of Ahoskie, NC, and Tony Simmons (Rechelle) of Ahoskie, NC; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A public viewing is scheduled on January 26, 2019 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. followed by a wake from 6-7 p.m. at Hertford County Undertakers.
The funeral will be held at New Ahoskie Baptist Church in Ahoskie, NC on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
Hertford County Undertakers in Winton, NC is handling the funeral arrangements.
