AULANDER, NC – Geraldine Britton Edwards, age 87, of the St. John’s township, passed away on May 16, 2019 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.
Mrs. Edwards was born on January 27, 1932 to Frank Harvey Britton, Sr. and Sallie Mae Askew Britton in Hertford County, NC. Geraldine worked as the cafeteria Manager for Ahoskie High School for twenty-five years before retiring. She enjoyed her job and the children that have come through along the way. Geraldine loved hummingbirds and flower gardening. She took advantage of every opportunity of traveling and going out to eat at different restaurants anywhere and everywhere with her special friend, Butch. Geraldine was up for trying any new restaurant at any time. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend that will be deeply missed by all.
Besides her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton B Edwards, and two brothers.
Geraldine is survived by her son, Thomas Wayne Edwards, Sr. of New Bern, NC; her daughter, Darlene Edwards Young of Youngsville, NC; her grandson, Thomas Wayne Edwards Jr. and wife Lisa of Greenville, NC; her granddaughter, April Edwards Goviello and husband Chris of New Bern, NC; her very special friend and companion, Butch Fagin; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC with the Rev. Douglas Van Neil officiating, and burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
