MURFREESBORO, NC – Calvin Christopher Vinson, age 83, passed away on June 22, 2019 at his home surrounded by his beloved family.
A native of Hertford County, Mr. Vinson was born on August 12, 1935 to Jesse Walter and Lila Warren Vinson in Murfreesboro, NC. Calvin served his country proudly in the United States Army. Calvin was a salesman and plant manager for Simplex Industries and Fabco Inc. for 25 years and later enjoyed 10 years at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC as a monitor technician. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing with his sons. He was a die-hard fan of the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles. Calvin enjoyed traveling, having large cookouts, and spending fun times with his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a treasured friend that will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Besides his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Bruchlos Vinson; second wife, Ann Cherry Vinson; and brother-in-law, John Francis.
Left to cherish Calvin’s memory is his beloved wife, Linda; two sons, Christopher Hans Vinson, and Tadeus Jackson Vinson, both of Murfreesboro, NC; step-son, Ralph Mark Cherry and wife Rebecca of Milwaukee, NC; two grandsons, Michael Christopher Vinson and wife Lyndsey of Remington, VA, and Douglas Vinson Cherry and wife Destiny of McDonough, GA; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Marie Vinson, and Stephanie Ann Ferguson and husband Stewart, both of Conway, NC; three great-grandsons, Carter Jackson Vinson, Drake Matthew Howell, and Levi Douglas Cherry; two great-granddaughters, Marileigh Jones Vinson, and Briley Elaine Cherry; brother, Walter Oliver Vinson and wife Patricia of Newport News, VA; sister, Peggy Vinson Francis of Murfreesboro, NC; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 11:00 am at Meherrin Baptist Church with Rev. John Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
