WINDSOR – Friends, family, and members of the local community have banded together and posted a reward of $3,000 offered through local law enforcement for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person, or persons responsible for committing a June 15 home invasion of an elderly couple in Bertie County.
The incident occurred after midnight in the early morning hours at a residence located on the Early Station Road when multiple suspects reportedly entered the home.
During the episode the male victim was severely assaulted and pushed to the floor, sustaining injuries that required hospitalization.
Upon the home invaders gaining entry, both victims were bound and held at gun point while the suspects demanded money.
In addition to the residence being ransacked, several firearms, jewelry, and an undetermined amount of money was also taken.
Law enforcement was called to the scene shortly after 2 a.m., minutes after receiving a call. A Bertie County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said that though a search was conducted of the immediate and outlying area, nothing was turned up at that time.
Those with information in reference to this incident are asked to contact Bertie County Sheriff John Holley at 252-325-0260 or 252-794-5330, or Chief Deputy Kenny Perry at 252-794-5330.
The case is being investigated as possibly being related to a similar breaking-and-entering and assault that occurred in Hertford County back in February. The victims of that crime were also an elderly couple.
