WOODLAND – Susan Beck Ryan, age 71, passed away peacefully at her residence in Woodland on Thursday, September 26, 2019.

She was born on September 20, 1948 to Robert and Janet Beck in Rochester, NY. She was married to Donald Ryan, Jr. on December 21, 1968. Donald and Susan loved traveling. Susan and Donald were members of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Ahoskie. When she wasn’t traveling, she enjoyed her time in the women’s club at the church and her time with the Sacred Space Group in Woodland. Susan volunteered with Woodland Community Outreach. She loved spending time with her seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Ryan; mother, Janet Haller Beck; and father, Robert D. Beck.

Susan is survived by her two daughters, Michelle Ryan Adams and her husband Mike of Roanoke Rapids, and Donielle Ryan McDermott and her husband Jimmy of Woodland; sister, Mary Beck; three brothers, Dennis Beck and his wife Terri, Jimmy Beck, and John Beck (Irene Nixon), all of Canandaigua, NY; and seven grandchildren, Ryan, Emily, Maggie, and Abigail Adams of Roanoke Rapids, and Hannah, Rebecca, and Leah McDermott of Woodland.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Ahoskie, with Father John Brown officiating. The interment will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Woodland.
