In an abundance of caution and priority for Hertford County’s staff, citizens, customers, clients and visitors, David Cotton, Interim County Manager, has announced enacting additional protective measures, effective Wednesday, March 25 at 8:30 am.

Cotton said these protective measures comply with the Governor’s Executive Orders as well as comport with the County’s Core Values.

The protective measures include the following:

Continue the limitations implemented by the Department of Aging and Solid Waste*

Limiting access (by the public) to the Department of Social Services, Building Inspections and Public Works (Utilities) to by appointment only. All other County offices will remain open to the public. The limitations do not apply to State agencies occupying County provided office space.

Enacts the Communicable Illness & Response Plan & Temporary Telecommuting Policy.

Cotton stated that the rationale for the protective measures includes the fact that the departments being limited to by appointment only services do not have a physical barrier separating the public lobby from the staff; the offices remaining open to the public have a physical barrier allowing County staff to screen individuals and provide services from the relative safety of an enclosed office space; and the Temporary Telecommuting Policy will allow department directors the flexibility to further reduce the risk of exposure by allowing qualifying staff to work remotely, which in turn will reduce the risk of exposure to the staff remaining in the office.

* Solid Waste has implemented measures (trailer with a tank filled with water) to reopen the Millennium Saint John Road Convenience Site location by the end of the week. I have directed Solid Waste staff to investigate/implement similar measure for the Poor Town location as well.
