HARRELLSVILLE, NC – Virginia Dare “Jenny” Brown Chavis, 65, of 102 Sunset Street, Harrellsville, died Sunday, May 24, 2020 in her home where she was being cared for by her family.

Jenny was born in Hertford County on January 15, 1955, and was the daughter of the late William Warren Brown, Sr. and Maggie Elizabeth Terry Brown. For several years she owned and managed her business, Jenny’s Groceries, in the Millennium community, and later worked in the meat department of the Ahoskie Food Lion before becoming the manager of their Deli Department. She was a member of Christian Harbor Baptist Church and its W.M.U.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, infant Catherine Rose Brown, Peggy Dunlow, and Betty Waterfield.

Surviving are her daughter, Wanda Kay Taylor and husband, David, and her granddaughter, Kaylee Elizabeth Ingram, all of Harrellsville; four sisters, Jessie Damond, Nettie Rowe, and Linda Vaughan, all of Aulander, and Delia Newsome of Eure; a brother, William W. Brown, Jr. of Aulander; and two step-grandchildren, Brandon Steven Chavis of Murfreesboro and Kayla Newton of Gaston.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 28 at 1:00 p.m. in Christian Harbor Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Joe Futrell. Burial will follow in the Hall Rogerson Cemetery in Aulander.

Friends may join the family Wednesday, May 27, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the church and other times at the residence.
