COVID-19 claims another local life

AHOSKIE – Hertford County’s third death from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) was a resident at the Ahoskie House, an assisted living facility.

Albemarle Regional Health Services (ARHS) received notification on Monday regarding the death. The individual was over the age 65 and succumbed to complications from COVID-19, according to ARHS.

As reported in Saturday’s edition, 61 individuals (39 residents and 22 staff members) at the Ahoskie House had tested positive for COVID-19. Everyone at that facility was tested.

Those confirmed cases caused Hertford County’s COVID-19 numbers to dramatically rise. As of Tuesday, the county was reporting 128 cases and three deaths. The county had 89 cases as of last Friday.

Fifty-five (55) of the county’s cases are deemed recovered.

As of Tuesday, Northampton County has 163 lab-confirmed cases since the outbreak began, according to the county’s health department. One hundred twenty three (123) have recovered. However, the virus has claimed 14 lives in Northampton, 10 of which at Rich Square Nursing and Rehab.

Bertie reported 125 cases, four deaths, and 107 recoveries as of June 2.

Gates County listed 23 cases on Tuesday, with 12 recoveries and one death.
