WINTON – Miss Canika Macole Vann “Nik”, 30, the daughter of Iris V. Hines and McCoy Askew, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.
Canika was a 2008 graduate of Hertford County High School and an employee of Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, VA.
Nik was a cheerful person who loved being around family. Canika’s favorite pastime was eating out and tinkling with her Hondas. Canika will truly be missed by her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memories are the apple of her eye, (daughter) Caniyah Nacole Williams of the home; loving mother, Iris Vann Hines of the home; her father, McCoy Askew of Harrellsville; sisters, Carnissa Vann-Melton (Keith) of Aulander, NC, Wilma King of Durham, NC and Machelle Reid (Edward) of Triangle, VA; aunts, Cheryl V. Manley of Winton, NC and Vernice Askew of Brooklyn, New York; one niece, Aaleyah of Durham; nephews, Aunte’ Sessoms, A’Quan Vann, and Andric Melton, all of North Carolina, and Evan Reid, Sheldon Reid and Donovan Reid of Triangle, VA; lots of cousins; a special cousin who was her other mother, Auntra T. Vann of Ahoskie; and special friend, Toya “Baby Dee” Jenkins.
A viewing will be held from 2-7 p.m. on Monday, October 5 at Reynolds Funeral Home, Ahoskie. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6 at the Vann Family Cemetery in Union.
