JACKSON – Due to the heavy rain passing through the county today, Northampton County local government offices are closing at 1 p.m.
Northampton’s Temporary Emergency Management Coordinator Tony Burnette urged people to use caution on the roads. He said there have already been a few accidents due to hydroplaning and standing water.
“We’ve got quite a bit of flooding reported throughout the county, and we’ve got some reports of trees being down as well,” Burnette told the News Herald on Thursday morning.
Even after the rain clears out, people are advised to avoid travel while water levels remain high.
“Be cautious of standing water,” he concluded.
