AHOSKIE – Hertford County raced out to a 35-0 halftime lead and went on to defeat Northampton County, 41-0, here April 1 in non-conference football action.

Senior quarterback Tye Saxby passed for 317 yards and three touchdowns, and also had one touchdown run.

The Bears opened the scoring with a Saxby 18-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Winley. Charlie Thompson kicked the extra point. Thompson made five out of six extra points. The Bears led 7-0.

Saxby then threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Bryant Williams. The Bears led 14-0 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Tyree Coatney had an 18-yard touchdown run, Jaheem Thompson had a 4-yard touchdown run, and Saxby threw a 76-yard touchdown pass to Kyree Pitt. Pitt had a big night for Hertford County, catching four passes for 131 yards.

The Bears scored their final touchdown in the third quarter on a Saxby 3-yard touchdown run for the 41-0 final.

Dorienne Young and Brian Eley each recorded eight total tackles to lead the Bears in their defensive shutout. Keith Parker added seven tackles. He also had a sack. Israel Powell added to the defensive effort with an interception. Eley also had a fumble recovery, as did defensive teammate Montez Bishop.

Hertford County (4-1 overall) is scheduled to close its COVID-19 delayed season on the road this Friday (April 9) at East Duplin High School (2-4 overall). Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
