Late rally lifts Ridgecroft

BELHAVEN – Garrett Brown slapped a game-winning RBI single in the top of the seventh inning, completing a comeback by Ridgecroft School in their 5-4 win over Pungo Christian Academy here April 15 in Tarheel Independent Conference baseball action.

The Rams (8-2 overall) improved to 5-1 in TIC action with the win.

Pungo built a 4-0 lead by plating solo runs in both the first and second innings and then scored a pair in the home half of the third.

Lane Slachta belted a solo homerun in the top of the fourth. The Rams then added a pair of runs in the fifth frame and two more in the seventh, including Brown’s RBI single that broke a 4-4 tie.

Boone Barkley got the win for Ridgecroft on the mound. The righthander lasted four and a third innings, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out two.

Slachta started the game for Ridgecroft, working two and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out five

Devin Cadle started the game for Pungo Christian Academy. Cadle surrendered five runs on nine hits over six innings, striking out eight. Deacon Etheridge threw one inning in relief.

Ridgecroft racked up 10 hits in the game, led by Caleb Porter and Barkley who each went 2-for-4 at the plate. Slachta, Brown, Finn Dunn, Will Revelle, and Colby Hauser each added a hit for the Rams.

Tristan Mann led Pungo Christian Academy with two hits in four at bats. Mann also had three stolen bases.
