JACKSON, NC – Mary Ann Lambert Crawley, age 75, of Jackson NC, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
Mary Ann was born on February 4, 1946 to King and Lucille Lambert in Whiteville, NC. She graduated from Rich Square High School then attended Mitchell’s Cosmetology School in Raleigh, NC. Following her beautician career, she went into marketing and sales with local radio stations.
“Big Mama” was an amazing and loving wife and mother who treasured her family and friends. Playing games, and especially cards, brought her joy as did fishing, vegetable gardening and her flowers. She also loved dancing, making people smile and just being happy.
Mary Ann was dedicated to helping others. She was very active in her community and church, serving as a town commissioner and in various roles with Jackson Baptist Church for over 40 years. She served as a preschool Sunday School teacher, a deacon, and choir member. Mary Ann directed and helped with many church events including Christmas programs, Bible School and the Easter Egg hunts to name a few. Mary Ann also volunteered her time to the Jackson Women’s Club, Kirby Club, St Jude’s Hospital, Odom Prison board, American Red Cross (20+ years as well as Chairman of the Blood Drive), and the Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was honored and recognized by NC Governor James Hunt for outstanding volunteer work in 1999.
Along with her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her sister, Rachel Lambert Pope, and brother-in-law, Wayne Pope.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Wilbur Taylor Crawley, Sr.; son, Wilbur Taylor Crawley, Jr.; grandson, Davis Gray Crawley of Littleton NC; and daughter, Jennifer Crawley Huntley, her husband Justin, and granddaughter, Taylor Ann Huntley, of Wilmington NC. Also surviving her is step son Kenneth Cooksey, his wife Shannon and grandson Ethan Cooksey of Edmond, OK; sister-in-law, Hayes Askew of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and sister-in-law Phyllis Daniel and husband, Charles Daniel of Pleasant Hill, NC. Mary Ann loved greatly many nephews, nieces and best friends Miriam Pruden and Sarah Timberlake, both of Jackson, NC.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson, NC, with Rev. Warren Heitzenrater and Rev. Larry Godwin officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the sanctuary at Jackson Baptist Church and other times at Wilbur’s home.
