WACO, TEXAS – There have been 128 teams who have been ranked since the AFCA Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll began in 2000. You can add two more teams to that list. Frostburg State (Md.) and Chowan University (N.C.) both enter the Top 25 for the first time.
Chowan moves into the Top 25 for the first time in program history in any sport since moving into the NCAA ranks in 1993. The Hawks, and former Braves, have come close but have never reached the official rankings.
Frostburg State is ranked No. 23 after moving to 5-0 with a 51-21 victory over North Carolina-Pembroke. Chowan is also 5-0 and is ranked No. 24 after beating Winston-Salem State (N.C.), 73-7.
Frostburg State’s ranking is a little more remarkable because the Bobcats are in year three of their move to Division II from Division III after the 2018-19 academic year.
There are only two Top 25 matchups this coming weekend and they are with the two newcomers. No. 23 Frostburg State travels to No. 14 Notre Dame (Ohio) while No. 24 Chowan (N.C.) plays host to No. 16t Bowie State (Md.).
