MURFREESBORO – One person was seriously injured in a shooting at Dollar General, located on Main Street in Murfreesboro adjacent to Food Lion, this afternoon (Tuesday).
Murfreesboro Police Chief David Griffith told the News Herald that he and several officers responded to the “shots fired” call at 4:53 p.m. and were on the scene in approximately two minutes.
“We were able to find two individuals that had been involved in the shooting,” Griffith reported. “We are still sorting through who are the suspects in this shooting and who are the victims.”
He noted that two weapons, which were the property of both individuals, were recovered at the scene as well.
A third person involved left the scene in an unidentified vehicle to Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie to be treated for gunshot wounds. Griffith stated that individual was seriously injured and would be airlifted to another hospital.
“We’ve got several witnesses we’re taking statements from, and we’re still working the crime scene,” he continued.
It is not known yet if this incident is related to any other recent crimes in Murfreesboro, which includes the armed robbery of a Chowan University student on campus on Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing.
