Hertford County sweeps pair from Northeastern

AHOSKIE – Hertford County High School swept Northeastern in league play here Thursday.
Hertford County’s girls sit atop the league standings with a perfect 8-0 mark after a 62-47 win vs. Northeastern. The Lady Bears (14-2 overall) trailed 26-19 at halftime before using a 25-11 run in the third quarter to take control of the game.
Desiree Askew had a game-high 32 points and 17 rebounds in the victory. Brooklyn White (12) and Tamia Britt (11) also struck for double figures.
The HCHS boys completed the sweep with a 69-53 win vs. the visiting Eagles.
Freshman guard Rimiez Williams led the way with 22 points. Jeremiah Benthall added 12 points.
Since dropping a 63-55 loss at Northeastern on Jan. 4, the Bears have since won seven of eight games to improve to 13-4 overall and lead the conference with an 8-1 record.
HCHS has conference games this week at First Flight (Feb. 1) followed by back-to-back home games vs. Currituck County (Feb. 3) and Camden County (Feb. 4).
