Bertie High School’s top-seeded varsity girls advanced in the NCHSAA Class 1A basketball tournament on Saturday, defeating #9 Chatham Central, 51-38.
The Lady Falcons (21-4 overall) will host fourth-seeded Northside High School (18-2) in Tuesday’s (March 1) fourth round of the play-offs. A victory there would advance Bertie to the Eastern Regional finals.
Over in Ahoskie on Saturday, seventh-seeded Roanoke Rapids used an 18-9 scoring advantage in the second quarter to grab a 28-16 halftime lead and went on to upset second-seeded Hertford County, 62-48, in the third round of the NCHSAA Class 2A girls basketball tournament.
The Lady Bears end their season at 23-4 overall.
Meanwhile, Hertford County’s varsity boys, seeded fifth, dropped a 62-60 heartbreaker at fourth-seeded St. Pauls on Saturday.
The Bears conclude their season at 20-7 overall.
