Hawks sweep weekend

series vs. So. Wesleyan

MURFREESBORO – Chowan’s baseball team swept a weekend series against Southern Wesleyan by claiming both ends of a doubleheader here Saturday in Conference Carolinas play.

The Hawks win Saturday’s opener by blanking their guests, 11-0, before completing the twinbill sweep with a 12-8 win in game two.

Caleb Karie went 4-4 on the day with four walks to pace the Hawks. Tyler West picked up five hits with two doubles and two home runs.

Justin Winslow and Emanuel Betancourt tallied four hits each. Patrick Krack added three hits and five walks.

Shane Rademacher posted a complete game shutout in the opener, tossing 7.0 innings with 12 strikeouts and four hits.

Carson Everette picked the win in the nightcap tossing 4.0 innings in relief. Timothy Blackman recorded a one-pitch save.

In Friday’s series opener, Chowan held off a ninth inning rally to post a 10-8 victory against Southern Wesleyan.

Ryan Bellamy and Caleb Karie paced the Hawks with four hits each. Bellamy tallied three RBI, while Karie notched two RBI. Dallas Trevena posted three hits including two doubles.

Noah Evington went 2-3 at the plate with two walks. Nicky Wohleking picked up the win on the mound tossing 6.0 innings allowing three runs off seven hits.

The three-win weekend marks the first Conference Carolinas series sweep for the Hawks who improved to 8-18 overall and 3-12 in conference action.

Chowan returns to the diamond on April 1-2 as the Hawks host Erskine in a Conference Carolinas series. First pitch is slated for 2:30 pm on Friday, April 1.

 

Men’s lacrosse extends

win streak to five games

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Chowan men’s lacrosse team pitched a shutout in the second half on their way to their fifth straight victory with a 21-8 win over Emmanuel.

Eric George recorded seven goals and one assist. Jaxon Martin notched four goals and three assists.

Jackson Downs tallied four goals and four assists. Noah Jalal collected one goal and one assist. rik Dozzi posted three goals and two assists. Rylan Downey finished with two goals.

Chowan (5-3 overall; 1-0 in league play) will look to extend their winning streak as the Hawks take on North Greenville in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday, April 2. Face-off is slated for 12 pm.

MURFREESBORO – The Chowan softball team earned their first Conference Carolinas sweep in dominating fashion with a pair of 8-0 run-rule victories against Converse here Saturday afternoon at home.

Kaitlin Brunelli paced the offense with four extra base hits, with three doubles and a triple to go with three RBI.

Haleigh Reid and Paige Wilhelm contributed three hits each. Reid added a double, triple, and home run to go with four RBI. Wilhelm added three RBI.

The Chowan pitching staff of Ina Womack, Megan Vincent, and Bailey Wilcox allowed two hits and four walks in the doubleheader. Ina Womack tossed a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts and one hit. Vincent tossed 4.0 innings allowing one hit with four strikeouts. Wilcox picked up a pair of strikeouts in one inning.

Chowan improved to 7-18 overall and 2-4 in Conference Carolinas action with the sweep.
