RALEIGH – Governor Roy Cooper announced on Tuesday that the State of North Carolina is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Derek Antoine Scott, age 39.
Scott was shot and killed on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021 in his residence, located at 8291 NC Highway 46 in Garysburg. The suspect(s) drove by Scott’s house and shot at the residence. One of three shots that entered the home tragically struck and killed Scott.
The week after the shooting, Northampton County Sheriff’s Captain Patrick Jacobs told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that the motive behind the shooting is unknown at this time.
“It appears that Derek Scott was an innocent bystander and not in anyway an intended target,” Jacobs said in early January. “It’s unknown at this time why this happened or why this residence was targeted.”
Anyone having information concerning this case should contact the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office at (252) 534-2611 or the State Bureau of Investigation at (919) 662-4500.
