Downs named Spring Scholar-Athlete of the Year

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Conference Carolinas has released its Spring Scholar-Athletes of the Year presented by Hudl.
They are awarded annually to one individual in each Conference Carolinas sponsored sport. The Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners are chosen by the Conference Carolinas Student-Athlete Affairs Committee.
Jackson Downs, senior from Olney, Maryland represents Chowan for Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Men’s Lacrosse. Downs became the first men’s lacrosse player to be named First Team All-Conference and All-American. His efforts in the classroom were just as impressive posting a 3.79 GPA as a Graphic Design major.
Downs joins Harri Lovett (Men’s Soccer) to earn the honor this year along with Sydney Henderson (Women’s Soccer, 2020-21) and Inecia Rolle (Women’s Golf, 2020) to achieve this award.
To be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the nominees for the award must have been named all-conference in their sport and also chosen academic all-conference.
The Conference Carolinas Spring Scholar-Athletes of the Year presented by Hudl represent six different member institutions. They are:

Men’s Golf: Brice Ballin, Mount Olive
Women’s Golf: Georgia Page, UNC Pembroke
Men’s Lacrosse: Jackson Downs, Chowan
Women’s Lacrosse: Zoe Dougherty, Mount Olive
Softball: Ashtyn Patterson, Francis Marion
Men’s Tennis: Armando Ferreira, Mount Olive
Women’s Tennis: Larissa Berger, North Greenville
Men’s Track: Jon Wojcuich, Mount Olive
Women’s Track: Jaiden Moody, Mount Olive
Men’s Volleyball: Jarrod Ferguson, Mount Olive
