AHOSKIE, NC – Ms. Cleo Eloise Mitchell, age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the Rich Square Manor of Rich Square, NC.
Ms. Mitchell was born on July 1, 1942 to the late Theo N. Mitchell and Hilda Peele Mitchell in Hertford County, North Carolina. Cleo had a beautiful singing voice. She used her talent as an Ahoskie High School student to sing the National Anthem at a football game. She also sang in the choir at the First Baptist Church of Ahoskie where she was a lifetime member. She attended Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC and became an assistant teacher for many years in Hertford County. She always loved working with her elementary school students and celebrating special holidays and moments with them. Cleo was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Cleo is survived by her brother, Thomas N. Mitchell and wife Carolyn; nephew, Noel Mitchell; and niece, April Mitchell Hewitt, all of Ahoskie; nephew, Ian Brett and wife Amanda and their three children of Kernersville, NC; and five cousins, Motsie Brooks, Gail Britton and husband Garland, Thomas Corey, Earl Lane, and Charles Lane.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ahoskie Cemetery, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Anita Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Staff at The Ahoskie High School Apartments and The Rich Square Manor for their compassionate and loving care during her stay and both locations, also the kind and gentle care given to Cleo by Community Hospice during her final days.
