With the opening of the 2022 high school football season a little more than one week away, players from local teams will hone their skills during controlled scrimmages scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Hertford County High School will host their annual AGI Showcase at Bears Stadium. The event, sponsored by AGI Builders of Ahoskie, begins at 5 pm with the rules clinic for the teams. The scrimmage portion of the event will follow, which involves Hertford County, Northeastern, and New Bern high schools.

General admission is $5.

Bertie High School will tune-up for the 2022 season during a 6 p.m. scrimmage at Northside (Pinetown) High School.

Gates County High School will participate in a pair of pre-season scrimmages this week: at Northside on Wednesday and Friday (Aug. 12) at Holmes High School in Edenton, also at 6 p.m.

The 2022 regular season begins Friday, Aug. 19.
