AHOSKIE – The Gallery Theatre will open its 2022-23 season in a big way on Saturday, Oct. 8 where several events are scheduled.

There will be a bake sale and thrift shop from 12 noon until 6 p.m. in the main lobby. The thrift shop will feature collectibles, home items, and possible treasures. There will also be an old-fashioned lemonade stand, and face paining for the kids.

At 6 p.m. that evening, the doors open as the Gallery Theatre presents its first-ever Improv Challenge. This unique community-based event will witness comic teams competing for cash and prizes with random topics and props to work with.

Prominent area judges such as Brenda Velazquez, Howard Hunter, Henry Joyner and Cal Bryant will have the difficult chore of judging this over-the-top event.

Hosts Norman Askew and Tim Flanagan are excited to be ring masters for the Improv Challenge. Maddie Dunlow will serve as the classic “round card girl”. Lucas Ireland (Shredder) will be providing the “rockin” in between contestants.

The Improv is just the beginning to an amazing season. On Dec. 1-3, the Gallery will present a Christmas variety show directed by Murfreesboro resident Jayme Leigh. The Christmas show will be full of comedy skits, holiday songs, performances and more. It will be a showcase of local talent of all ages. Auditions will be held soon and will be posted on the theatre’s website and Facebook pages.

February will introduce the Gallery’s second production of the season “Short Tales”. This will have multiple shows in one show.

“Short Tales” will be open to all fledgling directors and writers to write and direct a smaller play inside the main show. Flanagan, the play’s director, feels it is important to give the community a platform and creativity center.

Then in late April, closing out the season will be the beloved “On Golden Pond”.

This is an exciting time for the Gallery Theatre and they need the local community support in anyway possible.
