CLAYTON, NC – Clara Mullen “Tiny” Darden, 74, passed peacefully from this life to the next on Friday, November 11, 2022. She is now in Glory with her mom and dad, Ruby and Gene Mullen, and with her brother, “Punch”.
Clara was born in Gates County on April 4, 1948, the youngest of three children. Early in life she enjoyed baking wedding cakes and catering. Employments included Tarheel Bank in Gatesville, Gates County Farm Bureau Insurance at Eason’s Crossroads, the Gates County Tax Department, and later in life she established a successful real estate appraisal business. Many will remember her being a Certified Lay Speaker in the Methodist Church, an area which provided her with great enjoyment. Clara loved anything ECU, especially baseball, and served on the ECU Educational Foundation Board of Directors from 2013-2015. But above all, her greatest joy was being “Grammy” to her two grandchildren, Tyler and Katie.
Surviving is her daughter, Anita H. Mason and husband, David of Clayton; her sister, Joyce M. Eure and husband, Perry of Eure; and grandchildren, Tyler and Katie of Clayton.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 14 at 1:00 p.m. in Eure Baptist Church and will be officiated by Dr. Wayne Proctor and the Rev. Sherrie VanderVeen. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with committal rites officiated by Dr. Jesse Croom.
Friends may join the family Sunday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, or in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Monday.
For the last 19 months, Clara was blessed with exceptional, compassionate, and loving care by the wonderful staff at Brookdale Cary. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude.
