Hawks rout St. Aug’s

MURFREESBORO – Chowan men’s basketball team picked up their second straight win in as many tries defending their home court in a 91-65 rout of former league foe St. Augustine’s on Monday evening.
Daylan Askew paced the Hawks with 16 points. Jay Estime added 14 points and Skyler Davies contributed 10 points. Davies also led the team with nine rebounds.
Isaac Hippolyte and RJ Wilson tallied nine points each. Off the bench, Donavon Martin posted five points and six rebounds in five minutes of action.
Chowan posted 23 assists on 27 made baskets with 21 offensive rebounds. The Hawks posted a season-high 53 points in the second half.
Leading 38-31 at halftime, Askew knocked down a pair of shots from deep along with one by Skyler Davies that pushed Chowan’s lead to double-digits, 48-36, in the early stages of the second half.
After St. Aug’s closed the gap to six (52-46), Askew sparked a 13-4 run with a dunk in transition as Paul Whitby Wilson, and Veigar Alexandersson hit from deep and Cheick Traore posted a layup to lead 65-50. Hippolyte then added a pair of baskets in the paint before a triple by Estime pushed the lead to 73-53.
Chowan (2-3 overall) steps back into league play as the Hawks travel to Mount Olive to take on the Trojans on Wednesday, Nov. 30. Tip-off is at 7:30 pm.
