HARRELLSVILLE – An arrest has been made after an occupied residence near here was struck by gunfire this past weekend.
Hertford County Sheriff Dexter Hayes identified the alleged shooter as 19-year-old Trevon Montez Freeman. He is being held under a $2 million secured bond on eight counts of attempted first degree murder.
Freeman is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Hertford County Criminal District Court on Friday (Jan. 20).
Hayes said no one in the home was struck by the gunfire.
That incident took place at around 12:10 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 15) at a residence located on NC 45 near Harrellsville, Hayes said. He stated there were eight individuals inside the residence at the time the shots were fired.
“Through our investigation we were able to develop probable cause that Trevon Freeman was the shooter,” Hayes said. “We were able to arrest him on Wednesday night at a residence near Harrellsville.”
The Sheriff added that the investigation revealed that Freeman was not alone at the time of the shooting.
“We determined that Mr. Freeman fired the shots, but he was with someone,” Hayes stated. “We are still investigating that as we try to determine who was with Mr. Freeman. When we do find that out, that person will be arrested as an accessory to first degree murder.
“I commend my investigators and my deputies as well as Ahoskie Police officers for all their hard work that went into this case. We were able to quickly develop a suspect and make an arrest,” he added.
