Hawks suffocate Crusaders behind Robinson’s big night

TIGERVILLE, SC – Destiny Robinson notched a career-high 25 points on the way to an 80-49 win by the Chowan women here Monday in a Conference Carolinas game at North Greenville.
Robinson scored 19 of her career-high effort en route to her seventh double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Robinson is 12 points shy of 1,000 career points.
Imani Hickman chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Roberts and Keibra Hopkins added eight points each. Aniah Patterson tallied seven points and three steals.
Chowan’s suffocating defense forced 25 turnovers with 14 steals. The Hawks held NGU to 24.6% shooting, including 13.3% shooting in the third quarter.
The Hawks never trailed, building a quick 10-0 lead sparked by a pair of baskets each from Robinson and Hickman.
Chowan led 19-10 at the end of the opening period.
Robinson continued her offensive onslaught with the opening seven points of the second quarter that allowed Chowan to build a 27-16 lead.
Three pointers from Roberts and Hickman highlighted another Chowan run that staked the Hawks to a 34-17 cushion.
Chowan led 41-24 at halftime.
The Hawks turned up the defensive pressure in the third period, limiting their hosts to only six points. Meanwhile, Chowan’s offense was still in high gear as Hopkins connected on three shots and Patterson knocked down back-to-back triples to push the advantage to 63-28.
Kashara Simpson connected from the floor to give the Hawks a 65-30 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Chowan (12-6 overall; 8-4 in league play) will host Emmanuel at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28.
