GASTON – A man from Henderson, NC has been served arrest warrants for stealing over 2,200 gallons of fuel from a convenience store here last year.
Luis Gutierrez, age 29, stands charged with two counts of felony larceny of fuel. That fuel was valued at $10,567.
Gaston Police Chief Clayton Bowser, who investigated the fuel thefts along with Sgt. Jimmy Barmer of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, issued the arrest warrants on Gutierrez on Nov. 21. Gutierrez turned himself in on Jan. 30 at which time he was held under a $6,000 unsecured bond.
Gutierrez is accused of stealing 1,100 gallons of fuel on Sept. 21 from the gas pumps at the New Dixie Mart in Gaston. It was also reported that 1,124 gallons of fuel was stolen at the same store on Oct. 6.
Through the investigation it was determined that the same male suspect was involved in both thefts. That investigation also involved assistance with the Brunswick County (Virginia) Sheriff’s Office where similar fuel thefts were reported.
