AHOSKIE – A second person is now behind bars, charged in a deadly shooting on Feb. 25 in the parking lot of New Market Shopping Center.
Ahoskie Police Chief Jimmy Asbell said 18-year-old Martavious Nykeem Fennell-Laskey of Rich Square was arrested Wednesday. Fennell-Laskey, who was arrested in Rich Square, is charged with first-degree murder and jailed without the benefit of bond.
Fennell-Laskey is scheduled to make his initial appearance on Friday in Hertford County District Court.
Fennell-Laskey joins a 16-year-old juvenile from Colerain arrested for killing 21-year-old Ky’un Taylor from Kelford. Taylor was shot as he sat behind the wheel of a vehicle parked in front of Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant, located in the shopping center off Memorial Drive, and later died at the local hospital.
A motive for that murder has not been released.
“I want to thank the members of my criminal investigations division for their hard work and long hours they have put into this investigation. I also want to thank the community for their continued support and encouragement to the police department,” Asbell said in a press release sent this morning (Thursday).
