MURFREESBORO – Chowan Athletics and Vice President of Athletics, Patrick Mashuda, announced on Wednesday the hiring of alumnus James Cameron as the head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming program.
“It means the world to me to be back at Chowan,” stated Cameron. “After graduating, it was a dream of mine to become a head coach of an NCAA program. Now, I’m living that dream at my alma mater. I could not be more excited to be here.”
Cameron returns after spending two seasons as the assistant swim coach at Blue Valley High School. He also served as a Pool Service Technician in the Kansas City area.
The Overland, Kansas native was a four-year member of the men’s swimming program at Chowan. He was one of the program’s inaugural recruiting and graduating class. During his time in the pool, Cameron helped the program to their first-ever All-Conference selection picking up a Third Team All-Conference nod in the 200 Medley Relay.
Individually, Cameron ranks in the top-10 in program history in the 50 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Back. He still holds the school record in the 100 Back.
Cameron received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Chowan in 2022.
