AHOSKIE – The Hertford County Sheriff’s Office has made another arrest in the ongoing shooting investigation that occurred on April 14 at a residence located at 302 Jernigan Airport Road near Ahoskie.
Hertford County Sheriff Dexter Hayes said Andreas Monger was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) and faces charges related to a secondary shooting at the residence. Hayes said she is the wife of Derrick Lamont Monger, who was one of two people involved in a deadly shooting that also claimed the life of 17-year-old Jaylen Lamar Carey.
Andreas Monger was charged with two counts each of attempted first degree murder and discharging a weapon into occupied property. Monger is currently being held in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond and is awaiting her first appearance in court.
Hayes said Andreas Monger accompanied her husband to the Jernigan Airport Road residence where a verbal confrontation took place between Mr. Monger and Carey. That confrontation, Hayes said, led both men to shoot and kill each other.
Hayes told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald there was some sort of altercation earlier on or before April 14 that involved someone in Derrick Monger’s family and he apparently drove to the Jernigan Airport Road residence to confront that person.
Shortly after the deadly confrontation, there was a secondary shooting at the same residence. The house was struck multiple times and one male found inside the residence was grazed by bullet fragments.
Hayes identified that victim as 25-year-old Joshua Devonte Tann, who was transported to ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital for treatment and later released. According to Hayes, Tann is related to Carey. He added there was a second individual inside the home at the time of the secondary shooting. That person was not injured.
Hayes said there are four primary suspects in the secondary shooting of the residence. Three of those were arrested on April 14: Cameron Jaiy’er Lassiter, age 21; Justin Rashad Powell, age 20; and Brandin Deandre Hawkins, age 24.
Lassiter and Powell are locked up at the Hertford County Detention Center, each under a $1,000,000 secured bond, for two counts of attempted murder and two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property.
Hawkins was charged with one count of accessory after the fact and received a $5,000 secured bond.
According to the Sheriff, each of those men are related to Derrick Monger.
The fourth suspect is still being sought, Hayes said.
