POWELLSVILLE – One person has been detained for questioning in the wake of a deadly shooting this morning (Saturday) in Powellsville.

A post on the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page said that the fatal shooting took place at around 6 a.m. on Freeman Street in Powellsville.

Law enforcement officials and other first responders were at the scene shortly after the shooting.

“The scene is secure and the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office will release an update to the public later today,” according to a statement on its Facebook page.
