HERTFORD – Gates County captured its first Four Rivers Conference baseball title in 10 years here yesterday (Tuesday), edging perennial powerhouse Perquimans High School, 5-3.
The Barons, who improved to 15-6 overall and 11-0 in league play, snapped a 2-2 tie by scoring three runs in the top of the third.
Noah Harris led the GCHS offense, going 2-of-3 at the plate.
Zach Stewart, Owen Stallings, Blayden Miller, and Owen Black each had a basehit.
Thomas Pierce got the win on the mound, working 6.1 innings where he surrendered two earned runs by allowing just two hits and fanning three.
Gates County will close the regular season at home this Friday (May 5) in a rematch with Perquimans.
