AHOSKIE – Chloe Hoggard’s masterful 10-strikeout performance on the mound coupled with Cashie’s 15-hit attack allowed the Windsor-based team to punch their ticket to the state tournament with an 11-1 win over Camden on Sunday in the 10u championship game of the District 7 All-Star Softball Tournament.

Cashie won all four of its District games at the Ahoskie Creek ballpark, outscoring their opponents 41-4 in the process.

As it turned out, Cashie got all the offense they would need to win Sunday’s championship game by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. There, Hadley Colson led off with a single, moved to second on an error and scored the game’s first run thanks to a RBI single off the bat of Hoggard. After Hoggard advance to second on an error and to third on a wild pitch, Ella Warren drove her home with an RBI single. Heidi Matthews followed by reaching on a two-base error, which plated Warren. Logan Jernigan slapped an RBI single to plate Matthews for a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.

Cashie added one run in the second for a 5-0 lead as Caylin Hoggard reached on an error, advanced two bases on a wild pitch and a passed ball, and scored on Briley Conner’s RBI groundout.

Cashie hung another crooked number on the scoreboard by scoring four more runs in the bottom of the third to pad their lead to 9-0. Matthews led off by reaching on a two-base error and scored on another Camden miscue. Jernigan followed by reaching on an error. Lilli Wells singled, with Jernigan taking third who then scored on an RBI infield single off the bat of Kayla Mizelle. Caylin Hoggard’s two-RBI single rounded out the Cashie scoring.

They added two more runs in the home half of the fourth, which closed out the game due to the 10-run rule. Colson and Chloe Hoggard led off that inning by lining back-to-back singles. One out later, they respectively scored on back-to-back singles by Matthews and Jernigan.

Chloe Hoggard kept Camden’s bats quiet for the most part. She surrendered a lead-off single in the top of the first, but then retired nine straight batters, eight of which were strikeouts. Camden’s lone run came in the top of the fourth on a bloop single to rightfield, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single by Mattie Gilliam.

Colson and Chloe Hoggard led Cashie’s 15-hit attack as each went 3-for-3 at the plate. Matthews, Jernigan, and Wells added two hits each.

Cashie advances to the 10u state tournament, scheduled for July 20-23 in Shelby.

The Ahoskie 10u All-Stars finished third in the six-team District 7 tournament.
