WINDSOR – A deputy with the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office was involved an accident last night (Tuesday) involving a pedestrian.
In a press release sent this morning (Wednesday) Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said that BCSO Sergeant H. Williams was traveling on Grabtown Road near Spivey Lane at around 8:14 p.m. at which time his patrol vehicle struck a pedestrian in the roadway.
Williams was transported to ECU Health Bertie Hospital where he was treated and released.
Ruffin said the pedestrian was airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
“I have been in constant contact with the [pedestrian’s] family and at the family’s request, the name and [medical] condition of the pedestrian is requested not to be released until nearest relatives have been notified,” Ruffin stated.
He added that the North Carolina State Highway Patrol will be conducting the accident investigation and any details regarding the collision will be released from the NCSHP.
Sgt. Williams will continue to work while the investigation continues, Ruffin said.
