AHOSKIE – A 32-year-old man from Williamston is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after he was shot inside a residence here Thursday night.
The Ahoskie Police are currently investigating the shooting, which occurred at 401 South Catherine Creek Road. A dog at that residence was also shot.
The name of the victim was not released.
Major Justin Farmer of the Ahoskie Police told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that officers were in the area of Hill Street at around 8:30 p.m. when they heard gunshots coming from the direction of Catherine Creek Road.
“Those officers began heading that way when a call came in of shots fired at 401 South Catherine Creek Road,” Farmer stated. “Upon their arrival at that address, the officers found a man inside suffering from a gunshot wound. They also discovered a dog on the porch of the residence that had also been shot.”
Farmer said the male victim was transported by Hertford County EMS to ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
He added that Hertford County Animal Control came to the scene and transported the dog to a local veterinarian’s office.
“We are in the early stages of investigating this shooting,” Farmer said. “We are hopeful that a homeowner in that area of Catherine Creek Road has a surveillance camera that may possibly show a person walking along the street at that time or possibly show a vehicle speeding away. If anyone has any type of information about this shooting, please share it with us.”
Farmer thanked the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, NC Highway Patrol, Hertford County Animal Control, Hertford County EMS, and Hertford County Emergency Management with their assistance at the scene of the shooting.
