EDENTON – Special Agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have arrested Marshall Williford, 68, of Edenton for alleged child sex crimes in Bertie County that date back over 40 years ago.
Williford was arrested Friday (Sept. 22) at his residence in Edenton. He stands charged with four counts each of first degree kidnapping and indecent liberties with children, and one count each of second degree rape and statutory sex offense.
After going before a magistrate, Williford was issued a $900,000 secured bond and booked at the Chowan County Detention Center. He is scheduled for an initial appearance on Wednesday (Sept. 27) in Bertie County District Court.
On May 15 of this year, the Windsor Police Department requested the SBI investigate an alleged rape that occurred several decades ago. This investigation also included assistance from the FBI Greenville office.
In a press release, the SBI said the alleged incidents happened between 1978 and 1988. The investigation also alleges there are multiple victims whose ages range from five to 14 years old.
Those with any information to share about these crimes can contact an agent with the SBI’s Northeastern District office at (252) 347-0572.
