LEWISTON WOODVILLE – Thankfully no one was injured, but it was a chaotic scene here Saturday when shots were fired in broad daylight in the parking lot of busy convenience store.
Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said one person is under arrest. Zyreke Pugh, age 20 of Lewiston Woodville, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm from within an enclosure to incite fear, and carrying a concealed gun.
Pugh was processed and confined into the Bertie/Martin Regional Jail under $100,000 secured bond.
Ruffin added that a juvenile has been taken into secure custody.
The investigation is ongoing, Ruffin said, and more charges may be forthcoming on more individuals.
Sheriff Ruffin stated that the incident occurred at the Duck Thru in Lewiston. At the time of the shooting, there were multiple customers entering and exiting. Meanwhile, a tanker truck was unloading fuel.
Upon arrival, Bertie deputies located several shell casings in the parking lot, evidence that there were individuals shooting at each other.
The investigation led by Deputy T. Battle and assisted by Lt. M Phelps resulted in Pugh’s arrest.
