AHOSKIE – Takiya Lewis Blalock has announced she intends to file as a candidate for District Court Judge for District 6, which includes Hertford, Bertie, Northampton and Halifax counties.
“I have spoken with Judge Vershenia Ballance Johnson and she has informed me that she is retiring at the end of her current term and will not seek re-election. In light of Judge Johnson’s retirement, I plan to file for District Court Judge for the 2025-2028 term,” stated Blalock.
Born and raised in Ahoskie, Blalock is a product of the Hertford County Public School system. After attending North Carolina A&T State University for undergraduate school and North Carolina Central University School of Law, she came back home to begin a career as a lawyer.
“I believe that being a lifelong resident of Hertford County has put me in the unique position of being able to understand what our citizens need from their public servants,” Blalock said. “They need someone who is knowledgeable, fair, experienced, compassionate and follows the law. I am qualified to serve as judge because I have spent my career in the courtroom, handling both civil and criminal cases. If elected, I will be fair and just while serving the citizens of our community.
“Representing the people of this community is something I have done since I began practicing law in 2010,” Blalock continued. “As an attorney, not only have I spent time in the courtroom, but I have also contributed to my community through volunteering. I have worked with programs such as teen court, served on committees promoting economic development and other boards and programs throughout the community.
It has been an honor serving the people of this district as an attorney, and I look forward to being able to serve our community as District Court Judge,” Blalock concluded.
