AHOSKIE – Cultivator’s Freedom Players announce an interest and casting meeting for its next production, “The Outsiders.” This show is open to Roanoke-Chowan area youth ages 8-18 (3rd – 12th graders).

The interest and casting meeting will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 510 Everette Street in Ahoskie. At the meeting, there will be a read through of the script. Please email cultivatornc@gmail.com in advance of the meeting to get a copy of the script or call 252-395-2327.

Rehearsals will take place in Ahoskie on Saturday afternoons from 1-4 p.m., January thru mid March. The show dates will be March 15-17.

This opportunity is free for all participants. All genders and ethnicities are welcome! A script fee donation of $12 is kindly requested for those who are cast in the show. Scholarships for script fees are also available. Sponsorship opportunities to support the production of “The Outsiders” are also available.

“The Outsiders” play is based on the young adult novel written by S. E. Hinton. It tells the powerful story of friendship and belonging.

The Freedom Players was formed in the summer of 2023 as a youth theatre arts group to further the literacy work of the nonprofit Cultivator, Inc. The Freedom Players offer no and low cost theatre production experiences for youth ages 8-18 in northeastern North Carolina. The group is committed to providing a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive atmosphere for all participants and audience members.

The Freedom Players will be announcing its 2024 season in December 2023.
