Chowan defeats St. Augustine’s in wire-to-wire win

RALEIGH – The Chowan men’s basketball team picked up the wire-to-wire victory to get back in the win column here Tuesday evening in a 76-66 victory over St. Augustine’s in non-conference action.
Daylan Askew paced the Hawks with another 20-plus point outing with 22 points after going 6-of-7 from deep. RJ Wilson notched his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds to go with five assists.
Aaron Ross added 11 points off the bench. Preston Le Gassick contributed nine points, six rebounds and two steals.
The Hawks cleaned up the glass to have a plus-11 advantage. Chowan would also go 12-of-14 from the free throw line in the second half.
Chowan’s defense held St. Augustine’s to 23.5% (4-17) from behind the arc.
Chowan (3-3 overall) hosts Elizabeth City State on Thursday, Nov. 30 in a non-conference contest. Tip-off is slated for 7 pm at the Hawks Athletic Center.
