AHOSKIE, NC – Donald Wayne Godwin, 79, of 312 Center Grove Road, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in his home where he was being cared for by family.

Mr. Godwin was born in Hertford County on June 15, 1944, and was the son of the late Paul Mitchell Godwin, Sr. and Vera Harrell Godwin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Godwin Frymier (husband, Gary, deceased).

A farmer for many years, he later had been employed with Southern States. Mr. Godwin was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church and had also served as a firefighter with Powellsville Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. Among his many enjoyments in life included his love of the outdoors and fishing, and he always looked forward to his daily trips to both Hardees and Bojangles where he would spend time with his friends.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Thelma Peede Godwin; two daughters, Audrey Leigh White of Windsor and Allison Godwin Wilson (husband, Rick) of Dover, DE; a son, Jeff Godwin of Clayton; a brother, Paul M. Godwin, Jr. (wife, Nancy) of Ahoskie; three grandchildren, Jessica L. White, Cindy W. Gibbs (husband, Bryan), and David A. White, Jr., all of Windsor; three great-grandchildren, Bryan L. Jr., Landen, and Sarah Gibbs; his feline friend, “Cheddar”; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m. in Center Grove Baptist Church, 826 Center Grove Road, Ahoskie, and will be conducted by Pastors Roger Kiker and Greg Hurdle.
