Hawks hold off Lions in crucial road game

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA.- The Chowan women’s basketball team held off Emmanuel in the final minute of play here Saturday where the Hawks notched a crucial road win, 59-56.
With the win, Chowan (8-6 overall; 8-2 in league play) continues their stay near the top of the Conference Carolinas.
The Hawks snapped Emmanuel’s four game winning streak and six game winning streak at home. Emmanuel sits atop the league’s Southwest Division.
Tynasia Bunting posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Meara Carter also added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Sydney Roberts collected seven points and nine rebounds.
Emmanuel stayed close in the contest with three-point shooting, hitting eight triples compared to Chowan’s two.
The Hawks went 19-of-32 from the charity stripe.
The Lions cut the deficit to one, 57-56, after a 6-1 run with 37.3 seconds remaining. Yasmine Brown connects on a driving lay-up with 14.3 seconds to put the Hawks up 59-56
The Hawks’ defense held strong to not allow a shot attempt down the stretch.
Chowan steps back into divisional play against Francis Marion on Tuesday, Jan. 30 on the road in Florence, SC. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.
