Tied at 4-4 inside thee first two minutes of Thursday’s quarterfinal matchup, Ahoskie Christian did what they do best….score in bunches.

Morgan Wadsworth tallied 10 of her game-high 39 points over the opening eight minutes, leading the Lady Warriors on a 16-2 run capped by Mara Dae White burying a buzzer-beating three-pointer from the left wing that staked Ahoskie Christian to a 20-6 lead.

After Heritage sliced its deficit to 10 points (20-10) at the outset of the second period, the Ahoskie ladies were off and running again. Wadsworth and Lacey Berryman got that outburst started as they each completed an old-fashioned three-point play. Wadsworth then connected on back-to-back baskets, the last one off a steal and lay-up, as the Lady Warriors extended their lead to 20 points (30-10) at the 4:26 mark of the period.

Over the last four minutes of the quarter, Wadsworth’s two free throws and a basket allowed Ahoskie Christian to open up a 22-point lead (34-12). But they still weren’t done as Wadsworth drilled consecutive three-pointers while Berryman added a deuce, which staked the Lady Warriors to a commanding 42-16 halftime lead.

That advantage grew to 30 points (49-19) when Berryman drilled a three-pointer at the 5:05 mark of the third period. The majority of that lead held at the end of the period where the Lady Warriors led 57-28.

Led by Cheyenne Anderson, who led Heritage with 27 points, the Lady Patriots scored 11 of the first 17 points of the fourth quarter, rallying to within 63-39, but their deficit was too much to overcome.
