HARRELLSVILLE – Mrs. Rachel Pierce Mabry, a beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024, at ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, at the age of 73.
Born on June 7, 1950, in Bertie County, Mrs. Mabry lived a fulfilling life dedicated to her family and work. She devoted over 20 years of service at Southland Corporation, followed by several years at Peoples Bank. She also found joy as the Owner/Operator of Tar Hill Landing Grill.
Rachel was the definition of beauty, beautiful face, beautiful laugh, beautiful soul. She welcomed all of us with open arms. She made you feel special and loved. Family was her priority, and she would protect and defend each of us fiercely. She was strong and independent. She also had the well-known “Pierce Temper” and would set you straight if need be. Rachel’s love of nature was genuine. She enjoyed the view of the river, and the animals living in their natural habitat, especially the wonderful hummingbirds that would visit over and over, bringing their young families too. She fed and housed them; it was a sight to behold. Rachel was kind and caring, a friend to all.
We know that she has been reunited with loved ones on the other side who were waiting to greet her. Imagine that grand reunion. She will be greatly missed, and I know that she will continue to watch over us from Heaven. Absent from the body, present with the Lord. No pain, only peace.
Mrs. Mabry is preceded in death by her father, Richard Norman Pierce; mother, Odell Whitley Pierce; son, Kevin Wayne Higgins; husband, Jerry Finis Mabry; brothers, Thomas Goodman Pierce, Raymond Richard Pierce, and Charlie Edward Pierce; and sister, Iris Pierce White.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Pierce Karnes of Henrico, NC, her stepson, Eric Scott Mabry (Shannon), and their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Mabry, of Ayden, NC; and a host of other family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, NC. A graveside celebration of life service will take place on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Harrellsville Cemetery.
1 Corinthians 13:13 Three things will last forever–faith, hope, and love–and the greatest of these is love.
Mrs. Rachel Pierce Mabry will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and love for her community. May she rest in peace.
