AULANDER – Not much is known at this time regarding a deadly shooting that occurred near here last night (Wednesday).

Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said that deputies responded at around 10:21 p.m. to reports of a person being shot in the 1500 block of Hexlena Road near Aulander. Upon arrival deputies found a 28-year-old male victim deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

Bertie County Sheriff’s Office Investigators and agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are investigating this homicide.

Ruffin said further details would be released at a later time to protect the integrity of the investigation.
