MURFREESBORO – The Chowan University football program led by second-year head coach Paul Johnson announced the 2024 football schedule on Thursday.
The Hawks, heading into their second and final season in the Gulf South Conference, feature five home games this season as Chowan hosts the other half of the league’s members.
To start off the 2024 campaign, Chowan makes the shortest trip of the season across the Dismal Swamp to take on Elizabeth City State on September 7. This will be the first meeting between the programs since the Hawks left the CIAA in 2022 and the first non-conference meeting as the teams had played 14 previous times in league action.
Chowan will take on Barton for the third consecutive season under the lights and a preview of Conference Carolinas football action for 2025. The home opener is slated for 6pm on September 14.
The Hawks will open Gulf South Conference action at home on September 28 against Mississippi College. This meeting will also serve as Homecoming for Chowan University. Kick-off is slated for 1 pm.
To open the month of October, Chowan will head to Cleveland, Miss. to take on nationally-ranked Delta State on October 5.The Statesmen finished 10-2 last season and made the second round of the NCAA D-II Playoffs.
Chowan will return home for a pair of contests on October 12 and October 19. Shorter will come to Murfreesboro in a non-conference contest as the other Hawks made the move to the Conference Carolinas in all sports, with football moving in 2025. Chowan will then take on NCAA Playoff participant West Florida on the 19th. Both contests are scheduled for a 1 pm kick-off.
The Hawks will then head south to take on West Alabama on October 26 before facing NCAA Playoff quarterfinalist Valdosta State on November 2.
Chowan will see another Conference Carolinas member, Erskine, this time in Gulf South Conference action on November 9 to conclude the home schedule. This contest will serve as Senior Day and Hall of Fame with kick-off slated for 1 pm.
The Hawks will conclude the regular season on Nov. 16 against North Greenville, a Conference Carolinas football playing member in 2025, in Tigerville, SC.
