CHESTER, VA – Robert James “Jimmy” Wright, 78, of Chester, VA and Palm Bay, FL died April 23, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was a much beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
Jimmy retired from Park 500 as a millwright and he attended the New Apostolic Church of Hopewell, Virginia. He was an avid golfer, horseshoe player, and fisherman. He stood strong in his beliefs and family values.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton B. Wright and Rita Ceresco Wright, and a brother, Clifton Barclay “Tiny” Wright.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 43 years, Vernell Wright, of the home; a brother, Robert Patford of Florida; two sons, James Wade Wright of Melbourne, FL and Karl “Eddie” Gupton and wife, Allison, of Ahoskie, NC; a grandson, Kalen Gupton and wife, Leanna, of Greenville, SC; a granddaughter, Meghan Powell and husband, Chris, of Ahoskie, NC; two grandsons, Kaiden Gupton and Kannon Gupton; and a host of other family and many good friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the New Apostolic Church, 2606 W City Point Rd, Hopewell, VA. Graveside services will immediately follow at Southlawn Memorial Park in Petersburg, VA. The family will receive friends following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jimmy’s name may be made to the Youth Group of the New Apostolic Church in Hopewell, VA.
The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
